SUBJECT-SPECIFIC FACILITIES Our multi-million pound Food Science and Innovation Suite provides state-of-the-art equipment for you to conduct your studies and research, with two specialist kitchens, a bespoke sensory evaluation room, pilot plant and science facilities. Designed with the help of the food industry, it also replicates the environment you could go on to work in after you graduate. GRADUATE CAREERS Having acquired a high level of understanding of food science, you will be able to pursue a range of career paths when you graduate, including areas such as: • Product and menu development • Laboratory work • Health education (local and national) • Research and teaching • Advisory work BSc (Hons) graduates who want to continue their studies can also progress onto postgraduate level courses offered at University College Birmingham, the University of Birmingham or elsewhere.
PRACTICAL APPLICATION You will have the chance to put your skills into practice by undertaking work experience alongside your studies (a minimum of five days in both your second and third year), with a wide range of opportunities available in the food science and product development industries RESIDENTIAL VISITS Visits are a feature of the course, with University College Birmingham providing support towards the cost of trips. Past visits have included food exhibitions and competitions as well as food manufacturers and producers SPECIALISE YOUR STUDIES Our range of optional modules enable you to tailor your studies in order to develop a specialism relevant to your chosen career. Whether it’s working in food technology, ENRICHMENT You will have the opportunity to undertake additional awards such as food hygiene, as well as gaining AfN accreditation by producing an evidence portfolio associated with your modules. Our strong industry links also allow you to benefit from a wealth of additional opportunities, including industry research and guest lectures from expert professionals sports nutrition or teaching with food, you can customise your degree to suit your interests and career goals
