OVERVIEW Innovation is vital to the food industry. Technology is constantly changing to meet the demands for a nutritious, safe and sustainable food supply, not to mention a diverse market and changing consumer trends. Our Food Development and Innovation course is all about giving you the best possible preparation to help the industry meet these challenges. Designed for anyone seeking a management career in food, beverage and retail – or even working in food media and food technology education – our course combines up-to-date technical knowledge with the practical skills needed in the industry. You will assess new ingredients and identify appropriate market applications, as well as learning how to enhance the sensory attributes of products and recipes to deliver the very best quality for manufacturers, retailers and consumers. Our purpose-built, state-of-the-art Food Science and Innovation Suite offers the very latest technology and facilities to support your studies and research, while you will put your skills and knowledge into practice working on real industry-led live projects and assignments. You will examine current trends within the industry such as health, food availability and food security. There are also multiple opportunities for you to gain extensive real-world work experience, including the option of a 12-month paid placement. Students studying the FdSc will have the option of progressing onto the final year of the BSc (Hons).
