YOUTH, COMMUNITY AND FAMILIES BA (Hons)/FdA

WHY STUDY HERE? WORK PLACEMENT As part of your course, you will have the opportunity to put your learning into practice and broaden your experience on a work placement within the industry. Our previous students have worked in youth and community centres, children’s centres and hostels, and providing mentoring and pastoral care in schools. They have also served local community projects supporting women, homeless people and asylum seekers ENRICHMENT In addition to learning from our expert lecturers, you will gain valuable insight from a multitude of guest speakers covering a wide variety of topics. Recent examples have included representatives from the BBC, Cherished UK and The Give Back Project, as well as criminology experts and community organisations by customising your studies to match your career ambitions. There are many optional modules for you to choose from, ranging from Criminology and Criminal Justice to Community Health and Substance Misuse. GRADUATE CAREERS Completing this course will allow you to embark upon a career supporting young people and their families in a professional capacity. You will be able to pursue work in areas including: • Youth/community work • Youth justice • Family support • Counselling

• Drugs services • Youth offending • Learner mentoring • Housing

Our graduates have also developed specialisms to undertake targeted work in areas such as mental health, child sexual exploitation, alternative education, supporting looked-after children and young people not in education, employment or training (NEET). BA (Hons) graduates who want to continue their studies can progress onto postgraduate courses in youth work and community development (with JNC) or social work.

You will learn practical and professional skills, both in and outside the classroom, and have the chance to develop and coordinate rewarding community projects in specialist areas.
