SCHOOL OF EDUCATION, HEALTH AND COMMUNITY @UCBofficial

YOUTH, COMMUNITY AND FAMILIES

BA (Hons)/FdA Accredited by the University of Birmingham

OVERVIEW Do you want to play a vital role in supporting the next generation? Working with young people and their families covers a huge range of areas from education and health to social welfare and community development, and our Youth, Community and Families course will help you make a real difference in whichever sector you aspire to work. Learning from expert lecturers and tailoring your qualification to your chosen area of the industry, you will be able to explore specialist areas ranging from sexual health, homelessness, substance misuse and rehabilitation to community arts, sports projects and the criminal justice system. You will work with a range of service providers and examine current events within the industry affecting how society works with young people and their families, as well as hearing from a wide range of guest speakers. Your learning is not limited to the classroom either. Our course gives you the opportunity to undertake a work placement within the industry, boosting your experience and demonstrating your abilities to potential employers before you graduate, as well as further developing your interpersonal skills and expanding your network. Students studying the FdA will have the option of progressing onto the final year of the BA (Hons).

I found that lecturers treat every student as an individual and champion their goals and dreams. One of my lecturers encouraged me to start my own business, LIFT Matters, in collaboration with St Basil’s, Trident Reach and Start Again, which provided hampers to people in need. This was an amazing experience and it was fantastic to have staff see my potential and encourage and motivate me.
