GRADUATE CAREERS This degree provides an excellent platform for entering a career working with children in a professional capacity. Depending on your experience, you could move on to work in organisations in education, welfare, leisure, advocacy and counselling, covering a variety of roles such as: • Family link officer (prison service) • Family support worker • Out-of-school club manager • Nursery manager/owner/supervisor/ room leader • Roles in schools (mentoring/teaching assistant, pastoral/attendance officer) • Support worker (children’s charities) • Children’s travel representative • Museum education officer • Personal learning coach (colleges) • Early years lecturer With further study and relevant experience, you could also move into areas such as teaching, social work, play therapy, children’s nursing, counselling, speech and language therapy and many other roles.
INDUSTRY APPROVED This degree is endorsed by the Early Childhood Studies Degree Network (ECSDN) and the level 3 practice recognised by the Department for Education (DfE). You will be assessed for nine sets of distinct competencies and will hold a licence to practise in certain areas of the sector upon graduation opportunities to enhance your learning and widen your skills. You will have the chance to learn Lego therapy – designed to help children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder – and be supported to complete Makaton training for helping children to communicate, as well as having the opportunity to receive training in baby massage, paediatric first aid and food hygiene WORK PLACEMENTS Getting real-life experience is a key part of the course, so you will be offered a wide range of placements throughout your degree. From day care, nurseries and playgroups to primary school mentoring, special education and children’s services, you will be able to gain experience in a wide variety of settings. You can also apply for further voluntary work with organisations such as Childline and the NSPCC ENRICHMENT Our course offers diverse enrichment
