John is a real difference maker. Working with children and young people as well as families and communities, his Childhood Studies degree paved the way for a career that has enabled him to make a positive impact on the lives of many people across society. The doors opened immediately for John before he had even finished his studies. Having completed a placement and volunteering work in family support during his course, he soon secured a paid role in the setting on graduation. “The opportunities and experience my placement provided me have been invaluable to my career trajectory,” he said. That trajectory has taken him through a variety of rewarding roles. John has worked as an early years practitioner, family support worker, community support worker and teaching assistant, along with his current role as a youth residential support worker for CareTech. “The benefit of my course was the high level of employability,” he said. “I have been able to explore a range of roles which I had access to thanks to my degree. “I work with some very vulnerable young people and I credit University College Birmingham for equipping me with the tools to thrive in what has been a challenging, but extremely fulfilling, role. “I would highly recommend my course to anyone interested in working in the childcare sector,” he added. “The qualification caters for a wide variety of roles and the University employs an epic team of lecturers who are qualified and greatly experienced in all of them. “You will graduate feeling equipped to take on whatever the industry throws at you.” He added that being in Birmingham city centre was an “infinite add-on to an already brilliantly equipped campus with amazing facilities and services.” John Daniel Youth residential support worker for CareTech Childhood Studies BA (Hons)* OUR STUDENTS
