ENGLISH LANGUAGE SUPPORT Proficiency in English is essential for undergraduate study. Don’t worry if you do not yet meet the entry requirements as University College Birmingham offers a range of English language courses to prepare you for academic study. To improve your speaking, writing, reading and listening, we also hold: PRE-SESSIONAL SUMMER ENGLISH LANGUAGE COURSES 10-week pre-sessional course – suitable for applicants who hold an IELTS for UKVI of at least 5.0 (with no less than 4.5 in each band). This course runs between the end of June and the beginning of September 6-week pre-sessional course – if you hold an IELTS for UKVI of at least 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in each element), this course commences at the end of July INTENSIVE ENGLISH COURSE Depending on your level of English, we offer the following courses: One semester English course – if you hold IELTS for UKVI of 5.5 (with no elements less than 4.5), then this one semester course aims to improve your speaking, reading and writing Two semester English course – if your current IELTS for UKVI results are 4.5 (with minimum of 4.5 in each band), a two semester English course is provided Three semester English course – if you hold IELTS for UKVI (with a minimum of 4.0) this three semester English course is available either September to September or January to January Both the one and two semester courses have entry points in September and January. INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION DIPLOMA (IFD) This course is one year in duration and ideally suitable for applicants who have completed secondary education and now wish to apply for undergraduate level studies. You should have obtained IELTS for UKVI of at least 5.0 (with no less than 4.5 in each element). Please refer to page 89 for course details.

FITNESS TO PRACTISE Several courses bring students into contact with children or vulnerable adults. Students on these courses are subject to Fitness to Practise procedures: • Nursing (Adult) • Physiotherapy • Public Health and Health Promotion • Social Work • Sports Massage and Remedial Therapy • Sports Therapy • Youth, Community and Families DISCLOSURE AND BARRING SERVICE (DBS) CHECKS With the exception of Public Health and Health Promotion, students on the courses listed above must also undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before they can enrol onto the course.
